Attendance and Tardy Policy
The Alma d’Arte handbook is very clear about our attendance and tardy policies, both are listed below and will be followed in class:
Attendance:
The 90% Attendance Rule. All qualified students in the LCPS district and at Alma d’Arte, except those exempted by law, regulations or rules, must enroll in school and are required to attend school full time. Alma d’Arte adheres to the recently approved Las Cruces Public Schools “Graduation and Credit” policy (IKF) and regulation (IKF-RA) approved by the LCPS Board of Education last spring and applies to the four LCPS High Schools. (complete policy available at www.lcps.k12.nm.us)
The new policy requires attendance in every class a minimum of 90% of the days that the class is held. This means that a student who misses 9 (nine) or more days of class per semester will not receive credit for the class. For classes worth over one-half credit, students cannot miss 5 (five) or more days per semester.
How does the 90% Regulation work?
Students must attend each class a minimum of 90% of the days the class is held in order to receive credit.
A student who fails to attend class at least 90% of the time will be referred to the Attendance Review Committee composed of Alma faculty and the principal.
The Attendance Review Committee will assess all factors to determine if a credit will be awarded if a student fails to meet the 90% attendance rate.
Alma will notify parents/guardians when their child has accumulated 3 (three) absences in one or more classes. A family-student conference will be held with the principal/Academic Director, the Platica educator, and other Alma faculty and staff to discuss interventions that will improve attendance.
Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities:
Alma d’Arte is committed to the principle that in no aspect of its classes shall there be differences in the treatment of persons based on race, creed, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and that equal opportunity and access to facilities shall be available to all. Consistent with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, if you feel that you have a disability, or need special accommodations for this class, please provide appropriate verification for Ms. Maggie Baber at (575) 541-0145 ext. 104.
