what is mental health?

Mental health is stability, homeostasis, being able to cope with change and function, a person with a mental disorder may have a hard time with maintaining relationships, jobs, do school work, take tests, or be able to complete daily functions.

Mental illness is not necessarily bad, it is a way of being and experiencing life, what matters is how we cope with our experience, we can learn ways to respond to situations and experiences and live long happy lives with "mental illness".

There are ups and downs, human emotions that have been labeled, and coping strategies like self-care and deep breathing.

We are constantly finding balance between second guessing ourselves and trusting our intuition, reacting and not reacting, considering and overthinking, worrying and hoping for the best, we are filtering our experience, our past experience informs how we filter our present moment, our brain is one big equation.

A well managed experience is really just mental awareness, we have mental diversity, many people feel that it is not an illness at all.  Each person has a unique experience so what may be scary for some may be the norm for others.

What matters is your perspective.

causes of mental illness

Physical factors: damage to the brain may cause a mental disorder, could be cause by growth of a tumor, impact, or bacteria.  Exposure to lead, or prolonged used of alcohol or drugs may also damage the brain.

Heredity: a person may inherit a tendency toward a mental disorder, this does not mean that the person will have the mental disorder, they could be at greater risk if events in their life trigger the disorder.

Early Experiences: extremely negative experience early in life can trigger mental illness.  child neglect, child abuse,o r listening to people fight.

Recent Experiences: Mental illness can start at any point during a person's life, an experience can lead to a struggle with mental health.  And example may be the death of a loved one or domestic violence.
