Microorganisms that We have covered so Far

Prokaryotic

  • Cyanobacteria

  • Bacteria of different shapes
    • Cocci
    • Bacilli
    • Spiral

  • Archaea

Eukaryotic

  • Waterbears tardigrades
  • Protists:
    • Paramecium
    • Algae
    • Amoeba
    • euglena
    • plasmodium
    • slime molds
  • Fungi

Forms of Cell Division

Mitosis: most eukaryotic cells, lead to two identical daughter cells

Meiosis: gametes: sex cells, leads to four cells with
                half the number of chromosomes

Binary Fission: in Bacteria, occurs in some
                            single-celled Eukaryotes like the
                            Amoeba and the Paramecium

TYpes of Energy

Mechanical:
Moving parts:
Riding a bike, paddling a boat, sharpening a pencil

Electrical: Electrons moving in a closed circuit
                   Computer, Fan, Alarm Clock

Light: Computer or Phone light, light rays we can see
            Lamp, Flashlight, Candle, The Sun

Thermal: Heat Transfer
                 Cooking, Fire, Furnace, Hair Dryer

Sound: Air vibrations we can hear
             Music, Ecolocation, drum

Energy is the ability to do work or cause change

Cells use energy to do work or cause change
Mitochondria and Chloroplasts make ATP, energy for cell work
