How I got to be your teacher:

Hello! I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at NMSU, and I am just about to be done with my Master of Arts in Education Degree from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. I felt that I needed more experience so I went to Austin, TX to work with some fantastic organizations. In recent years I have worked for Salvation Army Family Dorm as an Afterschool Teacher, LifeWorks Austin as a Youth Care Worker, and The National Domestic Violence Hotline/ loveisrespect.org as an Advocate and Healthy Relationship Educator. I did work 60 hours per week; the cost of living in Austin is quite high, most of the families that I worked with at Salvation Army had parents that worked full time. Working for these organizations granted me excellent training in teaching and in navigating courageous conversations as we learn to foster a more fair and just society through policy development and by raising awareness.

My passion is Art Science, I can
not separate Art and Science; the more we explore our planet, the more we recognize that everything is connected and is part of one system. In the field of art my skills include graphic design, jewelry design, painting, organic lotion making, sewing of purses, toys, and clothing, photography, and event production. Most of my friends are grown artists that have found ways to make a living through the integration of jobs that they love and art, art is our way of building community and staying happy. My understanding is that art is part of nature and is necessary for the pursuit of happiness, being a human being that wants to create art is part of nature and nature is constantly creating living art. We are living art.

I look forward to working with students and families; I know that we can achieve our objective of learning more each year and finding a sense of enthusiasm for lifelong learning. In this class we will learn practical ways to apply biology in our daily lives while aligning with the new Next Generation Science Standards as we get ready for the state required exams that are essential for high school graduation (www.ped.state.nm.us). We can ace those tests and simply move on. We can develop the skills needed to obtain that level of confidence and academic capacity together by learning a bit at a time and becoming familiarized with the language and wording that we see in standardized tests.

Life is full of tests and we just keep on going.
